Cheney Energy has a proven record of generating prospects and plays and, more importantly, getting them drilled. It’s one thing to have an idea, but executing this plan through leasing, drilling, completion and production often brings the greatest challenges.

Our successful projects include:

Wolfbone Play 2010-2013

Mitch Cheney served as EVP of Atlantic Exploration which was focused on the Wolfbone Play of the Delaware Basin. Contributing acreage and production to a Natural Gas Partners (NGP) funded company, the Atlantic team grew the company to more than 30,000 net acres and 14 wells before Cheney sold his stake in the company in August of 2013 at the conclusion of a Tudor Pickering Holt managed marketing effort.

    First successful prospect drilled by John L. Cox. First well IP'd for 186 BOPD, 1.2 MMCF/D

  • Brushy Draw (Delawary Mtn.) 1991

    Eddy Co. NM
    11 wells, 3 pay zones. Collaborated with Lynn Charuk on discovery

  • Permian Basin Royalty Acquisition Fund

    Acquired royalties ahead of emerging oil and gas plays in Permian Basin and Texas Gulf Coast. Over 200 producing wells currently.

  • BP Exploration Project 1994 - 1998

    Assembled team of independent explorationists to explore undeveloped bp leasehold in New Mexico. Generated 19 prospects which lead to 16 drill wells (15 commercial, 1 dryhole)

  • East Corbin Field Discovery, 1998

    Lea Co., NM
    Five pay zones - Morrow, Atoka, Bone Spring, Delaware, Queen.
    13 wells to date. Field is being drilled currently with horizontal wells targeting the Bone Spring formation.

  • Mescalero Springs Field Discovery, 2006
    Morrow Formation, 7-wells

    Chaves, Co., NM
    NM Discovery well (Samson Mescalero Fed Corn #1). Initial Potential 3,463 MCF/D, 285 BOPD. One of top 5 wells in New Mexico, 2006. Co-discovered with L.S. Charuk on farm-in from Marathon.
